Athleticism Skill Volleyball IQ Character

Developing athletes beyond the scoreboard.

Winning matters. But building confident, coachable athletes who embrace challenges and support their teammates matters even more.

My volleyball program is built around intentional athlete development. Every drill, workout and competitive activity has a purpose.

The goal is not simply to prepare players for the next match. It is to develop the movement, skills, understanding and character required for long-term success.

Coaching Philosophy

Four Pillars of Athlete Development

Strong volleyball players are developed through athletic ability, technical skill, game understanding and competitive character.

01

Athletic Development

Learning to move efficiently, explosively and safely.

  • Speed and conditioning
  • Mobility and balance
  • Plyometric training
  • Jump and landing mechanics
02

Skill Development

Building reliable fundamentals through purposeful repetition.

  • Serving and passing
  • Setting and attacking
  • Blocking and defense
  • Individual ball control
03

Volleyball IQ

Teaching players to read, communicate and make decisions.

  • Reading the court
  • Transition movement
  • Problem-solving under pressure
  • Game awareness
04

Competitive Character

Developing the habits strong teammates and leaders share.

  • Consistent effort
  • Coachability
  • Resilience after mistakes
  • Team-first leadership

How We Train

The Athlete Development Framework

Practices follow a consistent progression so athletes understand both what they are doing and why it matters.

01

Foundation

Prepare the body and establish efficient movement.

  • Athletic movement
  • Dynamic mobility
  • Plyometric activation
  • Ball activation
02

Develop

Build technical consistency and position-specific capability.

  • Ball control
  • Technical training
  • Position development
  • Serving and passing
03

Compete

Apply skills in game-like, pressured and scored situations.

  • Small-sided games
  • Wash drills
  • Game scenarios
  • Team competition

Purposeful Preparation

Building Volleyball Athletes

The opening phase of practice prepares athletes physically while reinforcing movement habits used throughout a match.

Step 1

Athletic Movement

Sprinting, single-leg power, lateral movement and volleyball-specific footwork.

Step 2

Dynamic Mobility

Preparing hips, ankles, hamstrings, shoulders and the full body for explosive movement.

Step 3

Plyometric Activation

Generating power, jumping with intent and landing safely under control.

Step 4

Ball Activation

Building rhythm and control through passing, setting and pepper progressions.

Player Development

Making Growth Visible

Players establish a baseline, identify goals and revisit progress throughout the season.

Player Performance Profiles

Each profile provides a personal record of development rather than a comparison to someone else.

  • Standing reach and approach touch
  • Vertical jump progress
  • Serving accuracy
  • Passing and setting control
  • Strength and endurance benchmarks
  • Personal development goals
“Progress is measured against your best—not someone else’s.”
